Norbert Michelisz leads Honda 1-2 as Rob Huff makes it out in FP2

Honda’s Norbert Michelisz led a Honda 1-2 in the second 45-minute practice session at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Marrakech, finishing just two-tenths of a second ahead of team-mate Tiago Monteiro, while Rob Huff was able to take part after being cleared by the scrutineers and finished third fastest.

The two Hondas were on top throughout the whole session, with Monteiro and Michelisz trading best lap times. Michelisz left it to the final moments to pull out his best lap, and finished the session fastest with a time of 1:22.234.

After missing FP1 after his car had failed scrutineering last night, Rob Huff took part in the session after his car was cleared just minutes before the session. Huff’s Citroën C-Elysée had failed inspection as it still had 2016 specification seat belts fitted to the car.

A new set of 2017-spec seat belts were flown over from the UK first thing in the morning and arrived just 20 minutes before the session began.

The Brit finished third fastest behind his two former team-mates, but stopped out on circuit at Turn 3 as the chequered flag fell, reportedly out of fuel.

Néstor Girolami was the fastest of the Volvos in fourth, over half a second behind Huff’s Citroën, with team-mate Nicky Catsburg just a tenth of a second further behind.

Tom Coronel’s session was cut short after the Dutch driver clipped the wall with 15 minutes left to go with the rear-right of his Chevrolet Cruze, and would end up down in 14th position.

Aurélien Panis had some running after also missing FP1 in his Zengõ Honda, after the team had replaced a broken radiator in his Civic WTCC, but would be classified last, just over three seconds off the pace.

A late improvement for Argentinian driver Esteban Guerrieri saw him the fastest of the two Chevrolets in sixth, splitting the three Volvos.

Qualifying follows and is due to get underway at 15:15 WEST.
