Daniel Nagy takes the positives from Morocco after missing out on points

Daniel Nagy was set to score his first points in the World Touring Car Championship on Sunday when he was running in eighth position, fending off Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Tom Chilton for the bulk of the race, before a mistake with just two laps to go saw him retire the Zengõ Honda.

Nagy, celebrated his 19th birthday on race day, was running in eighth position with 11 cars still running after early race dramas, but the Hungarian clipped the wall at the start of the penultimate lap, resulting in suspension damage which the team were just able to fix to allow him to start from the back for Race 2.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks to my team, they’ve been working 24/7 to get a good result this weekend,” said Nagy to TouringCarTimes. “We were very competitive in the first race; we set the fastest lap and we have a 2015 car so it was very special to be as quick as we were.

“Unfortunately, I just hit the inside wall a little bit, and then the suspension went. I was so close to getting my first points, but we’d like to take the positives from the weekend, as we were very competitive and were keeping pace with the mid-field, so we’ll keep pushing hard.”
