Volvo win MAC3 time trial at the Nordschleife

Polestar Cyan Racing Volvo team won the MAC3 time trial at the Nordschleife, despite a vibration issue for the #63 car of Nicky Catsburg, as Honda were even slower, suffering with their own problems.

It was championship leader Tiago Monteiro who was the injured party for Honda in the time trial, after having to take part despite experiencing a damper problem at the end of qualifying. As a result, the Honda team were set to just complete the lap and therefore take the eight points for just having competed in the event.

As Volvo prepared for their run, Nicky Catsburg reported a continued vibration problem on his S60 TC1 as well as a loose bonnet, with Catsburg’s malady set to compete with Monteiro’s damaged Honda.

Monteiro was reporting overheating early on as he ran behind team-mates Norbert Michelisz and Ryo Michigami on the lap, while Nicky Catsburg’s woes were not as problematic as Monteiro’s, with the Volvos going on to win the MAC3 by 19.578 seconds, with a time of 9:01.992.

The win is Volvo’s third of the season and sees them extend their championship lead over Honda by two points after qualifying points are included.
