Three WTCC rounds for Plato

SEAT Sport UK driver Jason Plato will contest three events of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in a SEAT Sport Toledo Cupra. The 37-year old driver will join the Barcelona-based SEAT Sport team at Silverstone (May 15th), Imola (May 29th) and Spa-Francorchamps (July 30th), teaming up with regular SEAT Sport drivers Rickard Rydell, Jordi Gené and Peter Terting.

While Jason will drive a Spanish-built car he will have his SEAT Sport UK engineers, including his own Race Engineer Eddie Hinckley, working with him on the FIA WTCC race weekends. Whilst the aim of challenging for the British Touring Car Championship Manufacturers’ title with SEAT Sport UK remains the priority, Jason’s objective during his three WTCC outings will be to enable SEAT Sport to further develop its Toledo Cupra under race conditions.

Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport’s Motorsport & Technical Director, said: “As Jason is a SEAT driver and he can fit these FIA WTCC races into SEAT Sport UK’s British Touring Car Championship programme, there is an opportunity for him to help us with the continued development of the Toledo Cupra. This collaboration is very interesting for us, as we can have an extended test session during a WTCC race, which will be very useful.”

Jason Plato said: “I’m really pleased to be doing these three World Touring Car Championship races as it will further expand my links with SEAT. My job will be to pass on as much information and feedback on the Toledo Cupra as possible and get the best results I can. It’s an important year for SEAT and the more brains they have on the job the better. The only significant difference between the BTCC and WTCC cars is the tyres, so I’ll be able to help SEAT Sport right from the word go. It’s going to be great.”
