More weight for BMW?
The dominating performance of BMW in the WTCC this year have upset the other teams. Several teams now require that the weight limit for RWD cars (BMW) must be raised with another 30 kilos. BMW has won three of four races so far and dominated the last race in France despite several BMW-drivers carrying success penalty weight.
“Something has to be reviewed,” SEAT Sport boss Jamie Puig said. “Müller came from eight to first place in the second race (at Magny-Cours) so easily. It is clear the BMW´s are in a different championship. The organisers will have to look at the rules to make this a more even series for everyone.”
A BMW spokeswoman pointed out that they did not find it appropriate yet to make any changes of the weight limits.
“Maybe we will get to Silverstone and the result will be different,” she said. “We did a good job of developing the car over the winter. Maybe the other teams will now make some improvements.”
WTCC series boss Marcello Lott said:
“The FIA Bureau constantly reviews the level of competitiveness in the championship. I am sure that it will make the right decision and at the right time.”
Keep in mind that RWD cars in the Super Touring days had 100 extra kilos. Today RWD cars in the WTCC only carries 30 extra kilos compared to the FWD cars.
