2006 WTCC schedule

A provisional WTCC schedule for 2006 was released a couple of days ago. There are many new things from this season. The number of races have increased from ten to twelve. But the current shape of the provisional schedule will most likely change shortly.

Autosport revealed that WTCC is trying to get one round at Monaco along side the F1 race. WTCC boss Marcello Lotti has been in contact with the Monaco organisers.

“The most important thing is that when I proposed the idea they didn´t say no. We´ve had another meeting since then. We are working very hard with the ACM and the city authoritie to make this happen. A race in Monaco would be great for the image of the championship and the manufacturers are all in favour,” Lotti said.

Another street circiut could also be added to the calendar, in the French city Pau. Lotti have confirmed that they are in talks with the French organisers. Since the WTCC parted with FIA GT it looks more likely that the race could be done. Before the street circuit was considered too small for the GT-cars.

Another event of the WTCC that is affected by the WTCC – FIA GT split is Spa. The track is currently not on the provisional schedule, but plans are already on the table for a separate event for the touring cars as they ran along side the Spa 24 hours event for GT cars earlier.
