Lada joins WTCC!

Rumours have circulated recently that Lada would enter the WTCC. Many took this as a joke, but it certainly is not. Lada confirmed in a press announcement that they will be on the tracks of WTCC next year.

A two car team will be run next year, the german team MTEC Sport will prepare the cars together with Lada.

“Our objective is to improve our brand image in all European motorsport program. Lada has a 35-year tradition in motorsport, mostly concentrated in its home market and not visible for international audiences; but that will change now and the three years commitment for the WTCC will allow Lada to promote this campaign aggressively,” said Vitaly Vilchik, President General Director of Avtovaz.

Lada will regard the first year in WTCC as testing and will go for it in 2007 with the new Lada Priora. No drivers have been signed yet, but drivers in Europe and the US are being reviewed and a decision will be announced this winter.
