Chevrolet drops Menu appeal

Chevrolet have withdrawn the appeal against the decision to exclude Alain Menu from the results of the second race in Macau. The Swiss driver was excluded from third place as post-race scrutineering revealed that there was only half-a-litre of fuel left in his car’s fuel tank, as opposed to the mandatory three litres.

“We admit that the car did not comply with the technical regulations,” said Team Manager, Mark Busfield, “however, this was as a result of accident damage sustained in the first race.”

“When Alain hit the barriers in the first race, the shock dislocated the electrical contact with the potentiometer, which activated the safe-mode of the electronics box which in turn allowed for a richer air-fuel mixture in order to cool the second Lambda. This then caused the higher fuel consumption, with the results we know,” Chevrolet Europe’s Motorsport Manager, Eric Nève explained.

“Despite this incident, I think we have shown our potential, which has steadily grown over the season. In order to continue to show this form we will embark on a stringent winter test schedule,” Nève concluded. “I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Andy Priaulx and BMW on their World Titles, as well as Augusto Farfus on his third place in the second Macau race.”
