Chevrolets to Germany

Switzerland-based Maurer Motorsport is the first indipendent team to enter Chevrolet Lacetti WTC cars in a national touring car championship. The team bought two former factory cars and will campaign them in the 2006 German Production Car Championship which has changed its name to ADAC Procar. The team is also considering a limited WTCC programme.

In 2005 Maurer Motorsport dominated the German series, winning the title with Swiss driver Mathias Schläppi at the wheel of an MG ZS.

Team boss, Beat Maurer said: “We were looking for a new make with lots of potential and a good touring car in Super 2000-spec to defend our German title. Chevrolet guaranteed us technical follow-up and developments on the cars and we are therefore convinced that we have a good chance to be successful in our title defence.”

The two right-hand drive Chevrolet Lacetti WTCs will benefit from the factory team’s engine and aerodynamic development programmes throughout the 2006 season.

“I’m pleased that the defending German Championship team has chosen Chevrolet to defend its title,” said Chevrolet Europe’s Motorsport Manager, Eric Nève. “We are convinced that Maurer Motorsport and their drivers and partners will be good ambassadors for the Chevrolet brand in Germany.”
