Testing continues at Monza

The second day of official FIA WTCC testing is underway and in contrast to yesterday’s conditions the track is dry. The times set were almost immediately ten seconds faster than previous sessions and the top 10 times were all within one second.

Again, it was the N.technology Alfa Romeo cars that set the pace. Salvatore Tavano set the fastest time of 2:01.173 but there was a tough battle with his team-mate Augusto Farfus whose 2:01.237 lap was good enough for second place. The third Alfa driver, Gianni Morbidelli, achieved the 7th quickest time.

Tom Coronel of GR Asia made his first appearance of the test days by setting the third best lap overall in the team’s Orange SEAT Toledo. It was Peter Terting who was fastest of the SEAT Sport team, 5th overall. Gabriele Tarquini however did not take part in the session due to illness.

The BMW teams were headed by Andy Priaulx who was 0.313 of a second off Tavano’s fastest lap. Dirk and Jörg Müller were 6th and 10th respectively while Marcel Costa, the young Spaniard set an impressive 2:01.895 which placed him the third BMW and 8th overall. Alain Menu and Robert Huff of Chevrolet occupied 13th and 14th places respectively while team-mate Nicola Larini was 22nd.
