Farfus stays in front

Number one Alfa Romeo-man Augusto Farfus Jr. made the most of his pole position and managed to keep the lead from start to finish. Despite hard attacks from Alessandro Zanardi and a damaged front side, the victory went to Brazil.

Zanardi was close for many laps and seemed to have the pace of Farfus. But with good defensive moves from Farfus and a small collision, Zanardi was forced to retire from his second place. Zanardi tried several times to out-brake Farfus coming in to the first chicane on the out side. Unfortunately that ended in a broken wheel for Zanardi as they made contact on the exit.

Behind them the fight was just as hard. The SEAT-guys were switching positions all over the place. At first Tarquini and Rydell were in front. But later on Yvan Müller again became the best SEAT-man, repeating his second place from race one and taking the championship lead.

Things went worse for the Swedish SEAT-driver, Rickard Rydell. Menu made a move on the very last lap and passed the Swede in a late braking duel. Robert Huff then tried to follow his team mate which resulted in Huff phunting off Rydell.

BMW had a dark second race. Best BMW-man was privateer Simone Iacone in 11th place. Priaulx and Dirk Müller were eliminated early. The two BMW-drivers plus one SEAT-driver went side by side coming in to Curva Grande. Unfortunately the sandwiched SEAT caused Priaulx to spin over the track and in to Dirk. A bit later in to the race Jörg Müller was pushed off the track by a privateer BMW.

Contrary to the glum faces at BMW, at Chevrolet there were big smiles. Alain Menu made the most of the chaos up front and finished third! The interesting debute of WTCC 2006 will continue at Magny-Cours in four weeks.
