Zanardi punished after Puebla

The collision in both races in Puebla between BMW Team Italy-Spain’s Alessandro Zanardi and SEAT Sport’s Yvan Muller has resulted in both drivers being placed under observation.

The pair were summoned by the stewards after the first race, with Zanardi receiving the majority of the blame. He was given a suspended penalty of five positions – meaning that should he be involved in another collision at Brno he will be dropped by five positions on the grid for Valencia’s Race 1. Otherwise his penalty will be scrapped. Muller also received blame, but was not punished.

The collision in the second race eliminated both, and is just the latest unsavoury episode between the two. The Italian and the Frenchman had already come to blows in the first race at Oschersleben.
