Tarquini won after team orders
Gabriele Tarquini won a wet second race of the WTCC-weekend at Istanbul. But the win was thanks to the team play of Peter Terting. The German lead the final half of the race after an initial scrap with Larini. But on the very final lap the order came from SEAT that Tarquini is to be let past.
At first it didn’t look as if the second race would be started. As the cars came on to the grid a huge downpour hit the track with water flowing. The organisers decided to hold the start for two hours and when the race started the track was still very wet but no rain was falling.
Tom Coronel started from pole position thanks to the reverse grid rule. But Soon Terting, Larini and Dirk Müller swept past and pulled up a gap. Behind the leading trio the three SEAT’s of Tarquini, Rydell and Gené was on the move. They cut through the field like a hot knife through butter.
Tarquini passed car after car and was on the final lap up behind Terting who was leading. Terting let him past but couldn’t hide his dissapointment in the parc feme. Nicola Larini on the other hand was very happy with taking his first ever podium finish for Chevrolet. Rickard Rydell took fourth with Jordi Gené fifth.
While Tarquini and Rydell climbed in the championship standings after this weekend Priaulx got no points. This race was ended with a rear tyre puncture for the brit.
