Alain Menu penalised for Macau
Chevrolet’s Alain Menu will be dropped ten positions on the starting grid for the first race in Macau. The penalty is a consequence of an incident that involved the Swiss driver and Dirk Müller last Sunday, during the second race at Valencia.
The Stewards judged Menu responsible for causing an avoidable collision and imposed him a euro 5,000 fine. However, because he had already received a suspended penalty of ten grid positions because of a previous collision (with Luca Rangoni at Istanbul), he will be automatically dropped in Macau.
The penalty will be applied on Menu’s results in the qualifying session.
Two other drivers have received ten grid positions penalties in Valencia: Alessandro Zanardi, for improving his lap time during the warm up session while the yellow flags were deployed, and Andy Priaulx, for a colliding with Gabriele Tarquini at the start of Race 1.
However these sanctions remain suspended until the end of the season and they will only be applied if the drivers commit the same infringement again.
