ITCC to revive in 2007
The succes of Super 2000 is getting bigger and bigger. With championships applying S2000 rules in Britain, Scandinavia, the Baltic states and ofcourse the World Touring Car Championship, an new championship with S2000 regulations have been born.
In replacement of the now organised Campionato Italiano Super Turismo by the CSAI (Commissione Sportiva Automobilistica Italiana), from 2007 on there will be a new Italian Touring Car Championship.
The Italian Touring Car Championship (ITCC) will organise seven rounds with each round holding two races with a maximum distance of 50 km. During the weekend the teams and drivers can work on their set-up during two free practises, a qualifying session and a warm up session of 15 minutes.
To equalise the performance of the cars, the same measures of penalty weight with the European Touring Car series will be adopted. The ballasts will be based on arrival positions and the grid order. The first eight classified drivers from race one will be inverted for the grid of the second race.
At least four of the seven rounds will be held in collaboration with other series. Presumably one race will be held together with the WTCC round at Monza. Two rounds will be joined by the ADAC Procar Championship. One round will be held at Misano with an other European championship.
Yokohama will be the main sponsor of the series. Together with the Super 2000-series there will be a SuperProduzione 2000 and a SuperProduzione 1600 class on track. The technical regulations of the classes are to be defined, but it probably will be quite simular to the Russian and German versions.
