Öhlins dampers to Schnitzer

The BMW Schnitzer team is in the title race with both Jörg Müller and Dirk Müller this year. Jörg is only one point behind championship leader Augusto Farfus while Dirk is seven points behind. In the ever on going development race Schnitzer have a new weapon: Dampers from Öhlins.

Öhlins is one of the leading producers of dampers in the World with over 100 World Championship titles. But their presence in touring car racing, and especially in the championships with S2000-rules, has been limited.

The Volvo team in the STCC has been running on Öhlins dampers for a while. Thanks to previous Volvo-team leader Janne “Flash” Nilsson, the first ever BMW 320si E90 got fitted with Öhlins dampers in the STCC earlier this year. Both Flash Engineering drivers Richard Göransson and Janne “Flash” Nilsson had Öhlins dampers in their BMW’s during the last couple of STCC races this season.

“These dampers are excellent. We are lapping two seconds quicker per lap in rain with these,” said team owner and driver Janne “Flash” Nilsson.

Kenth Öhlin is one of the persons from Öhlins responsible for the dampers in the BMW’s.

“We have had a long co-operation with Volvo and Flash Engineering. That worked very well and now we have managed to produce a damper that seems to fit the BMW’s very well,” Kenth Öhlin said.

According to our information the Schnitzer team were present in Sweden earlier this autumn, completing a damper test with Flash Engineering.

Schnitzer are first in the WTCC running the new Öhlins dampers. BMW Team UK (RBM) is using Moton and Schnitzer used to have Sachs. The dampers worked well for Flash Engineering in the STCC, it remains to be seen if Schnitzer can regain their lost ground on the other cars with these dampers.
