WTCC to race at Pau for three years

The FIA World Touring Car Championship have added the famous street race of Pau to their 2007 calendar. The WTCC cars and drivers will race for 67th edition of the historical Grand Prix of Pau on June 3rd, 2007, and will be back for at least two more years.

The wedding between the A.S.A.C. Basco-Béarnais (promoter of the event) and KSO (promoter of WTCC) was sealed at Pau’s Palais Beaumont by their respective presidents: Jean-Paul Pasquet and Jacques Béhar.

“I could not be happier. In 23 years of presidence, never ever I had contacts so smooth and fruitful like with KSO. Together with them we will find the solutions to any problems,” said Mr Pasquet.

Mr Behar commented: “In this choice we have been supported by all the manufacturers involved in the WTCC. The people of Pau have the history and experience, which will help the WTCC to grow up further. I have understood from the beginning that Mr Pasquet and I were going to hit it off.”

Pau, located on the Pyrenees mountains and with approximately 85,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the Pyréneés-Atlantiques region.

The Grand Prix has been raced since 1933 on a 2.7km street circuit, featuring Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3000; however the FIA WTCC will be the first wold championship hosted by the French city.
