Aston Martin for Rickard Rydell

Rickard Rydell has got an offer from the Aston Martin factory team. Previously strong rumours indicated that Rydell would drive for JAS/Honda with Dirk Müller. But Rydell has had no contact with Honda; instead he is looking on a move to GT-racing.

The chances for Rydell to continue with SEAT are getting smaller and smaller. Tom Coronel looks to be set for the fourth seat with SEAT. The key question for SEAT is money and for Rydell’s part SEAT Sweden does not have the required funds for a WTCC-drive. Coronel on the other hand is reported to be close to the required budget.

Rydell has good connections with Prodrive, which are running the Aston Martins, since the time they ran Volvo’s ETCC-programme. Last time Rydell competed in GT-cars with Prodrive was in 2004, driving a Ferrari 550 with Colin McRae and Darren Turner.

The new offer from Prodrive would mean that Rydell could do the entire ALMS-series, Le Mans and a couple of other races. However no contract is signed yet.

“It could be the entire ALMS or just the three main races, we don’t know yet. But I get more information later on,” Rydell said to Automotorsport.

According to our information Rydell is still looking at other alternatives which could be run along side an eventual Aston Martin-programme.
