WTCC offer for Göransson
Richard Göransson has got an offer to drive the World Touring Car Championship 2007. The double STCC-championship is still under a contract with Flash Engineering in the STCC, but team owner Janne “Flash” Nilsson will not stop Göransson.
“Richard has got an offer and I won’t stand in his way if he wants to go for it,” Nilsson said to Teknikens Värld.
Which one of the BMW-teams in the WTCC that has made Göransson an offer is still a secret. According to our information it is most likely RBM that is planning to extend their programme to two cars next year.
“There is an offer, but I haven’t decided yet. But that is something I must do shortly,” Göransson said.
The key thing, as usual, for Göransson is budget. If he is to move to WTCC from STCC he needs to bring sponsor money. If Göransson moves to WTCC, we could have two open seats in the top teams of STCC. Beside Flash Engineering, the Audi team Kristoffersson Motorsport could loose their champion Thed Björk to DTM.
“I can’t say anything until Audi Motorsport have decided their driver line up. If they choose Björk I will have two empty seats. But there is a plan for that, even if I wanted to see Björk continuing in STCC with us,” KMS teamboss Tommy Kristoffersson said.
Just as for Göransson, it is reported that what is stopping Björk from going to DTM is the budget.
