Extra race in Zandvoort in 2007?
Dutch media today reported that the FIA has signed a deal with Circuit Park Zandvoort, a track at the coast of the Netherlands. The race at Zandvoort is set to take place on the 6th of May.
The managing director of Circuit Park Zandvoort, Hans Ernst, was in Paris yesterday to sign a deal with the FIA with the intention to host a WTCC round for the next three years.
Last year Hans Ernst said he wasn’t keen on hosting a WTCC round because of the high costs of 1.5 million US Dollar. “But that amount has been brought back to normal figures, so we’re very happy with the deal”, Ernst said.
A big problem for the Dutch track has always been the amount of days on which the track can make extra noice. All those so called ‘noice-days’ are now being taken up by the DTM, the Masters of Formula 3 and the A1GP championship. Circuit Park Zandvoort has applied for extra noice-days.
Even though the local authorities still have to approve the new licence for noice-days, Ernst is confident the event will take place.
The track of Zandvoort has been used several times before by the RBM-team and Andy Priaulx.
