Independents prize money set

Prize money for the Independent drivers in the 2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship will total to € 352,000. The prize money will be awarded to the drivers entered in the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy. At each race meeting, a total of 32,000 euro will be awarded to the top six Independent drivers, classified by adding together the points obtained in the two races:

€ 12,000 to the first driver

€ 8,000 to the second driver

€ 5,000 to the third driver

€ 3,000 to the fourth driver

€ 2,000 to the fifth driver

€ 2,000 to the sixth driver

The point scoring system will be the same as the FIA WTCC: 10 pts to the 1st, 8 to the 2nd, 6 to the 3rd, 5 to the 4th, 3 to the 6th, 2 to the 7th and 1 to the 8th; however, double points will be awarded in the the two races of the final meeting.

Previous winners of the WTCC Independents Trophy were Wiechers Sport’s Marc Hennerici (BMW 320i) in 2005 and GR Asia’s Tom Coronel (SEAT León) last year.
