No JAS Motorsport in the WTCC 2007
There will be no JAS Motorsport in the World Touring Car Championship this year. During previous years the team has run Honda Accord’s in some sort of semi-official Honda-team. Last year the team had two cars driven by Pierre-Yves Corthals, Ryan Sharp and in a few races – Fabrizio Giovanardi.
After the team’s strong finish at Macau and with a big Honda-logo on the bonnet, there has been indications that Honda would increase their involvement with JAS and WTCC 2007. But apparently the deal never landed.
JAS Motorsport will still provide support for Tomas Engström and the Swedish Honda team in the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2007. Engström has received a new Honda Accord for the coming season from the Italian team. As for WTCC – the team has announced that they would like to return to the championship when the conditions are right.
WTCC-boss Marcello Lotti’s previous statement of a Japanese manufacturer in for 2007 seem quite distant at the moment.
“I feel good to say that we’re going to have a Japanese manufacturer in the championship,” Lotti told Autosport last year in May.
