BMW dominates qualifying (update)

Jörg Müller took pole position for the first round of the World Touring Car Championship 2007. The German headed a BMW 1-2-3-4 with Farfus second, Priaulx third and Porteiro fourth.
“Yeah, it is a good start of the season and we are very pleased. Lets see how the rolling start goes tomorrow,” Jörg said after the qualifying.

Best SEAT driver was Gabriele Tarquini in fifth position, almost half a second behind the pole time of Jörg Müller. Tarquini will start right ahead of his team mate Yvan Müller who in his turn will start ahead of the best Chevrolet-driver: Robert Huff in seventh. The Alfa Romeo’s were sadly off pace during the qualifying. Alfa Romeo returnee James Thompson was only 15:th, over one second behind Jörg Müller. Best privateer was Pierre-Yves Corthals with his SEAT Léon in 12:th.

After qualifying, Yvan Muller was demoted from 6th to 9th on the grid for tomorrow’s Race 1. His fastest lap of 1:25.328 was disallowed by the stewards because the Frenchman had cut onto the grass at Turn 2.

Muller was qualified according to his second fastest lap: 1:25.739 and he slipped behind Huff, Coronel and Gené.

Roberto Colciago spent the night in the Curitiba hospital further to his crash in yesterday’s test session and was discharged this morning.

The Italian driver is suffering from contusions to the ribs and from labyrinthitis that causes him to be in a daze.

Colciago is due to rejoin the championship for the second race meeting, at Zandvoort, on May 6th.

It will be a hard job for anyone not driving a BMW tomorrow. The race starts at 16.00 CET!
