Valencia next up for the WTCC
The fifth and sixth rounds of the FIA WTCC will take place this weekend in Spain, at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo. This is the fourth consecutive visit of the FIA Touring Car Championship to the Spanish stadium-like racetrack, where last year a crowd of 59,000 attended.
Alfa Romeo dominated the 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship meeting, with Fabrizio Giovanardi and Gabriele Tarquini who took one victory apiece.
The following year, on the FIA WTCC inaugural season, local hero Jordi Gené started from pole position to give the new SEAT León its first win, while Jörg Müller won Race 2 for BMW.
Last year Alfa Romeo won again with Augusto Farfus in the first race and Jörg Müller encored in the second one.
This week’s event will be presented to the local media and fans tomorrow, May 17th, at 5.00 pm, in a press conference at Valencia’s Museo de las Ciencias, located inside the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, the futuristic complex designed by architect Santiago Calatrava.
FIA WTCC Spanish drivers – Jordi Gené (SEAT Sport), Félix Porteiro (BMW Team Italy-Spain), Sergio Hernández (Proteam Motorsport) and María De Villota (Maurer Motorsport) will attend the event.
