Zanardi upset about grid penalty
Alex Zanardi has responded with disbelief to the penalty he received for allegedly causing the start crash at Oschersleben two weeks ago.
Zanardi was given a ten place grid penalty for the next four races. He won’t be able to appeal against the decision of the officials
“I have been recognized guilty for this contact by the FIA stewards. As a result of that they gaved me an unprecedented penalty of a ten places drop-back for the starting grid of the next four races”, Zanardi said.
“Because of the movements of the cars surrounding us, from the video played at normal speed you get the perception that my car is rapidly moving towards the left side.
After viewing the images at slow speed kindly provided to me from Eurosport with the appropriated technology which couldn’t be done at the race track, my sense of frustration for the unappellability of the decision is pushing me to don’t make any further comments.”
Zanardi isn’t the only one who doesn’t agree with the decision of the stewards. Nicola Larini, also involved in the incident, feels Zanardi was not to blame. “With Alex, we haven’t had the slightest spat or discussion about it,” Larini said to Italian magazine Autosprint. “In any case, I agree it should have been classified as a racing incident.”
