Zanardi to leave WTCC next year?
After the race in Oschersleben Alex Zanardi was penalised with a grid penalty for the coming four races. Zanardi was very angry about this and it is now rumoured he is considering to leave WTCC after this season.
If this was to happen, WTCC would loose one of it’s most colourfull drivers because of a crash which was considered a racing incident by all drivers involved.
“After viewing the images at slow speed kindly provided to me from Eurosport with the appropriated technology which couldn’t be done at the race track, my sense of frustration for the unappellability of the decision is pushing me to don’t make any further comments.”
Zanardi isn’t the only one who doesn’t agree with the decision of the stewards. Nicola Larini, also involved in the incident, feels Zanardi was not to blame. “With Alex, we haven’t had the slightest spat or discussion about it,” Larini said to Italian magazine Autosprint. “In any case, I agree it should have been classified as a racing incident.”
Italian media report Zanardi will test for the champcar team PKV at Sebring this month. PKV, owned by Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser, has offered Zanardi a test in the new Panoz DP01 Cosworth. According to “Autosprint” Zanardi wants to compare the old generation Champcars to the Reynard he was driving at the times before his accident.
