Corthals excluded, new leader is D’Aste

Things turned sour for Pierre-Yves Corthals after he finished second and third in the Independents’ Trophy races at Monza. The Belgian driver was excluded from the meeting further to a report from the FIA Technical Delegate stating that “…the car was not equipped with energy absorbing material inside front and rear doors (drivers’ side) and the rear left door was not in conformity with homologotation papers…”

As a consequence, victory in the second race was inherited by Roberto Colciago. Stefano D’Aste is now leading the Trophy’s classification with gaps of 8 and 10 points ahead of Corthals and Luca Rangoni respectively.

On top of this Corthals was also given a suspended 10-position grid penalty for Race 2 in Macau for having caused an avoidable collision with Jörg Müller in today’s second race.
