Gabriele Tarquini refuses ‘racing on the grass’
After his coming together with Gabriele Tarquini in the second race at Monza, Augusto Farfus was very angry with the Italian driver. In the opinion of Farfus, Tarquini was guilty of his crash, because the Italian would have touched him very hard on the back of the car. Farfus touched the barriers on the left side of the track, bouncing him back to the right side, narrowly missing the other drivers passing.
If Farfus had won the second race in Monza, he would have been on equal points with Andy Priaulx. However, now he is ten points back with just two races to go in Macau. A raging Farfus was constantly in the SEAT pitbox after the race. According to the BMW pilot Tarquini was at fault. “Tarquini ruined my mission to get closer to Priaulx”, Farfus said.
However, the race officials didn’t think Tarquini was guilty, nor did Tarquini himself. “Farfus was steering towards me and I tried to avoid him,” the 45 year old Italian said. And I will absolutely not drive on the grass. Especially since he is not my teammate.” Gabriele Tarquini had to retire a few laps later because of to much damage due to the collision.
