Alessandro Zanardi to continue with BMW

According to German media, Alex Zanardi has re-signed with BMW Team Italy-Spain to drive in the World Touring Car Championship in the 2008 season. It has been a frustrating season for the 40-year old ex-champcar champion. He only scored 14 points before the final race of the year, with his best result being a third place at Brno.

Zanardi said: “I’m not happy with the results this year! When ever we had the speed, we had no luck. I’ve had some crashes too, but I don’t think that I am driving thougher compared to the other drivers. I know they are not happy with me saying this, but driving the current generation of the Yokohama tyres is very difficult. Last year the tyres were much better.”

However, Zanardi still feels that he can win races: “I can win races and I enjoy the time in the WTCC.”
