No new rules for WTCC in 2009
According to our information the World Touring Car Championship will not introduce brand new rules for the 2009 season. Previously it has been reported that the championship was planning to introduce rules with turbo charged engines and rear wheel-drive only. Seemingly this has been put on ice due to the demand of some manufacturers that are planning to build new cars for the 2008 and 2009 season.
Still, other changes to the rules are planned to be introduced and the Touring Car Commission are reported to have set up a group that will work out the possible changes to S2000 in the future.
TouringCarTimes has received a list of some of the changes that are reported to be on the way to be introduced:
– Equalizing width of the cars
– Freeing up the rules regarding the suspension
– Changed valve sizes
– Improving safety
– Increased homologation size
– Sequential gearbox only
– Rolling start in both races (not in 2008)
– Further changing of the base rules between RWD/FWD cars
It is unknown when or if the different proposed changes will be in place.
