Monteiro won’t race a diesel SEAT at Macau
Tiago Monteiro will not start the last race of the year in a Diesel powered SEAT Léon. The Portuguese driver had requested a Léon TDI for the race in Macau, but it is now reported SEAT has been unable to grant his wish. Monteiro had set his hopes on a diesel powered car, as this is expected to suit the twisty track of Macau, where much torque is needed.
The SEAT Léon TDI made his debut at the eight race of this year at Anderstorp, Sweden. It soon proofed to be the right way for SEAT, as the new technology gave the SEAT diesel it’s first win in it’s second race at the German track Oschersleben. Since it’s debute it has already won three races.
However, because of the succes of the diesel engine, all SEAT drivers want their Léon to be equiped with the new engine. Gabriele Tarquini as well as Roberto Colciago had requested a diesel engine for their home race at Monza. Tarquini’s request was granted, as he is a works driver. Since Colciago is not, and SEAT Sport doesn’t have enough parts for the TDI, he was denied the diesel engine.
This lack of parts for the TDI is allegedly the reason Monteiro is not getting a diesel engine for Macau. He will have to race in a patrol powered car, just as Rickard Rydell will have to. The Swede is joining the Spanish squad for the last race.
Furthermore Monteiro is reported to be working hard on a works drive for 2008.
