The motorsport team of Franz Engstler will start in WTCC next year. The German squad anounced their engagement to the WTCC today, but also anounced they will stay active in the German Procar series and the Asian Touring Car Series (ATCS). The team has won the drivers and teams championship in both of these series this year and it’s looking for a new challenge.
“We’ve established ourselves in both championships and have acomplished all of our goals. That only leaves WTCC as the next logical step for us to make”, Kurt Treml, team manager at Engstler Motorsport, said. However, the team will also enter cars in the Procar series and the ATCS. Franz Engstler, owner of Engstler Motorsport and champion in this years Procar season, will drive in the WTCC together with Andrej Romanov. The Russian finished second in this years Procar championship.
Rustem Teregulov, also from Russia, will drive for Engstler in the Procar series next year. Who will be his teammate is still to be decided. Japanese drivers Japaner Masaki Kano and Seiji Shiobuchi will be driving Engstler BMW’s in the ATCS. “We want to defend our title next year, but the biggest challenge will be the WTCC”, Franz Engstler said.
With a good preparation the team wants to keep the costs as low as possible. “That’s why we chose to test in Macau under circumstances which can’t get any more realistic”, Treml explains. “Ofcourse we can’t compete with the works teams there, but we want to fight against the independents.”
