Qualifying: Menu takes a stunning pole!

Alain Menu has taken pole position for the first of tomorrow’s races in Macau in spectacular fashion. The Swiss driver was just 0.186 seconds faster than championship leader Yvan Muller. The only BMW driver that was able to have a say in the fight over pole position was Augusto Farfus, who currently lies third in the championship. The other championship leader, Andy Priaulx, was not able to get the right swing into his laps and had to settle for 12th position on the grid.

The results of the qualifying session are a big boost for Frenchman Yvan Muller. Several times during the session the SEAT driver set fastest lap and thus getting provisional pole, but in the end Alain Menu did a storming lap of 2:31.209. However, Muller won’t be to upset with that, having all his main rivals in the championship behind him on the grid.

Muller has the advantage of having a “guard” right behind him on the grid. Gabriele Tarquini set third fastest time. Tarquini will have to keep Augusto Farfus behind him, who will start from fourth on the grid. Nicola Larini and Robert Huff, both driving for Chevrolet, made it into the top ten as well. Larini set the fifth fastest time, Huff managed seventh. The Chevrolet pair were split by Jordi Gene in his SEAT Léon TDI.

After five minutes of qualifying the session was stopped briefly after local driver André Couto had hit the barriers. His car was to damaged to continue later in qualifying.
