WTCC denies Nordschleife rumors

The earlier rumors, reported on various newssites, of the World Touring Car Championship hosting a race at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife has been dismissed as just rumors by the WTCC organization.
“The Nordschleife has never been an option for the WTCC to host a race on,” said press manager Fabio Ravaioli.

The main reasons for the event not being possible to go through with are:

1 – The race distance. The WTCC hosts two 50km races per event which would mean two laps around the Nordschleife.

2 – TV coverage: The WTCC is based on live TV coverage which would be impossible to have on the Nordschleife according to the WTCC organization.

3 – The deal with Oschersleben to host the German event.

“Plus the organisation and homologation problems that hosting an FIA World Championship meeting would cause on the Nordschleife. The idea of running just two laps is an ridiculous idea,” said Ravaioli.
