Chevrolet trio stays on for 2008
A week a go we reported that Larini was likely to stay on at Chevrolet and Rob Huff’s chances of staying had increased as well. Today Chevrolet has confirmed that the two will be racing with them in 2008, next to Alain Menu, who had already been confirmed.
“We are convinced that having Alain, Nicola and Rob on board again in 2008 will be one of the cornerstones of our next year’s success”, Eric Nève, Motorsport Manager of Chevrolet Europa, said. “The decision about your driver line-up is never easy, which is the reason why we took our time before making that important move.”
Larini, who was still in the race for the title at the last round of 2007 in Macau, has still not won a race for the Chevrolet team. He hopes to change this in 2008. “I’m sure the stability within the team will bring lots more wins for Chevrolet in 2008. We were all right there from the beginning, from when we were merely following the others to this year, when we were leading.”
Rob Huff had a inconsistent season in 2007, but managed to get things on the right track at the end of the season. He will have to prove Chevrolet made the right choise by continuing his strong form right at the beginning of the 2008 season. According to the Briton the car won’t be the problem. “I think it’s fair to say that in ’08 each of us will try to go for the title. We know what it takes to win races, so now all we have to do is stick together for a solid season and it could be three blue cars going for the title in Macau in November.”
Alain Menu is more than happy to stay at Chevrolet: “When you have scored five pole positions and won five races in one season, the one thing you want to do is stay where you are,” said the Swiss driver.
“I’m sure the new car will be even better than this year’s, therefore my objective for ’08 is to win the title.”
