Tielemans drives for Wiechers in 2008

Dutchman Olivier Tielemans will drive for Wiechers Sport in 2008. This has been anounced at a press conference in The Netherlands today. Tielemans will drive a BMW 320si in the 2008 World Touring Car Championship.

Tielemans drove for N.Technology last year, but will now tranfer to the German based Wiechers Team. Wiechers won the Independents Trophy in 2007 with Stefano D’Aste, but D’Aste has moved to Proteam.

Tielemans was very happy with signing for the German team. “I’m looking forward to the next season. 2007 has been a learning year, and I have learned a lot from my ex teammate James Thompson at N.Technology”, Tielemans said. “Next season I hope to use this experience in the BMW of the respected team of Dieter Wiechers.”

The Wiechers BMW of 2007 has been completely stripped and rebuild after the last race in Macau last season. It will be shipped from Antwerpen to Curitiba in February. Just before the start of the season there Wiechers will perform a last test with the car. For the European races the team will have a new BMW prepaired.

Team owner Dieter Wiechers is pleased with signing Tielemans. “We’ve come to know Olivier as a personality and a talent. Of the young generation, we see him as a potential winner. He went from Formula 3000 in 2004 and 2005 to DTM in 2006. A year later he was in 2007. Now we are very happy to anounce Olivier as our 2008 driver.”
