Engstler to defend ATCS title
One week after presenting their World Touring Car Championship team, Liqui Moly Team Engstler announced their driver line-up for the Asian Touring Car Series for the 2008 Season.
For the team, being in the ATCS is as important as being in the WTCC. “We have to defend two championship titles in Asia and to advance the young drivers in our line-up to the international level” said team owner Franz Engstler.
During the first tests in Hockenheim, both Asian drivers have made a very good impression with the team.
From Osaka, Japan, 26 year old Seiji Shiobuchi brings with him a wealth of experience, having raced in a number of endurance races in Japan.
At 23, Jack Lemvard, who is considered to be ‘an Asian shooting star’ has shown phenomenal talent, despite his young age. His participation in the Formula BMW Asia last year has shown the team his abilities and after the first tests in the touring car, the team is confident he will be able to chase the title.
“I am certain that with these two drivers in our team we will be able to regain the Asian Championship title that we have lost with the departure of Franz Engstler into WTCC” said team manager Kurt Treml.
Liqui Moly Team Engstler has rebuilt two BMW E46 for the ATCS, one of which successfully took the Division 2 Championship in 2007 with Masaki Kano at the helm.
