Olivier Tielemans wins Independent races

Dutchman Olivier Tielemans started his second full season in the World Touring Car Championship yesterday. It’s his first year as an independent, after he switched from N.Technology last year to Wiechers Motorsport. It has been a succesfull start of his first year as independent, with wins in both races. The win in the first race was given to him after Pierre-Yves Corthals got a penalty, but in the second race he won the race with a strong drive.

“The first race was a gift ofcourse”, Tielemans said. “But it was fun as well. Pierre-Yves gave me the trophy afterwards, so that was very sportive of him!”

“The second race was great. TO be on the podium of the WTCC with guys like Priaulx, Porteiro and Tarquini is awesome.”

“It’s good to have a car now that stays constant throughout the race. That’s quite different from the Alfa last year, that looses a lot of grip during a race. With the BMW you can keep on attacking and that gives me great confidence”, according to Tielemans.

Tielemans now leads the Yokohama Independents Trophy with 20 points. Second is Stefano D’Aste (with a handicap of 2 points) with 12 points. Sergio Hernández and Franz Engstler share third place, with both 11 points.
