Double for SEAT in race one

The SEAT Léon TDI drivers have made the most of the first race at the Puebla track in Mexico. Jordi Gené took a light to flags win, ahead of his teammate Rickard Rydell. The Swede had a good start coming from seventh on the grid. Nicola Larini was the only one capable of spoiling the SEAT party, taking the last spot on the podium.

Larini’s team mate Alain Menu had a good start of his race as well, but after being hit from behind by Yvan Muller the Swiss driver gradually dropped back to eight place. He will however start from pole position for the second race today.

Tom Coronel took fourth place in his petrol powered SEAT, ahead of the TDI train of SEAT, led by Gabriele Tarquini. Yvan Muller and Tiago Monteiro finished in sixth and seventh respectively.

BMW-driver Augusto Farfus also had a good start of his race, but could not keep up with the pace on the twisty track in Mexico, eventually dropping back to 11th, one spot behind team mate and reigning world champion Andy Priaulx.

Belgian Pierre-Yves Corthals took victory in the Independents Trophy, being the quickest privateer already for the entire weekend.
