Anderstorp will be replaced by Imola

There will be no Swedish round of the World Touring Car Championship this year. The Italian track Imola will replace Anderstorp on September 20/21st. Massimo Cimatti of Imola was delighted over the decision:
“Imola is back on track! We are delighted to launch our new motor sport calendar with a world championship event such as the WTCC. This is a major reward for all the efforts we have made in these first months of management of the circuit.”

The reason for the cancellation of the Anderstorp race is that the Swedish organisers and the WTCC promoters failed to reach a commercial agreement. The Swedish organisers however hopes for a return of the event in 2009.

The WTCC-race will mark the return of international racing at Imola. The track has been rebuild after the old racetrack and facilities were demolished in 2006.
