Engstler and Romanov penalised

As we reported earlier, Franz Engstler has received a penalty and an official warning for his action on Dutchman Olivier Tielemans during the second race of today in Valencia. Now Engstler has also received a 30 seconds penalty for causing an accident, TouringCarTimes has learned.

The 30 seconds penalty means Engstler drops behind Alexander Lvov in the results of the second race. Instead of five points, Engstler now gets four points for the Independents Trophy. If Engstler causes an accident like this again in the next two rounds, he will be dropped ten places on the grid for the following race.

“In the first race we tangled, causing him to spin off the track”, Tielemans said. “It was his own fault, but he felt I was to blame. He told me “We’ll get you back for this” and so they did. He came from a long way and hit me hard in the back. I had to retire after that.”

Engstler’s team mate Andrey Romanov was also fined and received an official warning, for threatening and intimidating Olivier Tielemans during the discussion that followed after the race.
