Andy Priaulx: “I want a diesel”

The reigning World Touring Car Championship champion Andy Priaulx wants BMW introduce their diesel engine soon. In a interview with Motorsport Aktuell the Brit was rarely open about what he wanted from BMW.
“Shall I tell the truth or be diplomatic? For me it is quite clear that things need to be changed. I hope that BMW also decides to run diesel,” said Priaulx.

BMW are, as TouringCarTimes.com have reported on previously, developing a diesel engine but are still hesitating to introduce it.

“It depends on the FIA whether we bring a diesel. It may be that you will never see it,” said BMW Motorsport boss Mario Thiessen in an earlier interview.

The next WTCC race takes place in France in two weeks on the streets of Pau, a place that Priaulx would like to use a diesel engine.

“There are a lot of uphill slopes there. The diesel car has already been tested and it is really fast,” said Priaulx.

During the past WTCC-weekend at Valencia Priaulx took seventh place in the first race and third in the second – his second podium of the year.

“It has been a weekend in which I consistently looked in the mirrors and saw cars getting bigger and bigger. I am glad that I scored points here, but I wish I had more speed in qualifying and in the first race,” said Priaulx.
