Honda want a weight reduction in WTCC
N.Technology have called on the FIA Touring Car Bureau to reduce the weight of the team’s Honda Accord Euro R after its first World Touring Car race weekend of the season at Valencia, reports Autosport.
Team boss Mauro Sipsz, whose team has developed the car help from JAS Motorsport, believes it is unfair that Chevrolet receives a 30kg weight break, while the petrol powered SEAT Leon runs at 25kg under the weight.
Which leaves the Honda as the only car running without any dispensations.
“I do not understand why the FIA Touring Car Bureau has not given us the chance to compete on an equal level with the rest,” said Sipsz. ” I hope this will change for the next race.”
Sole driver for N.Technology James Thompson, said after only managing two 11th places finishes at Valencia: “I don’t understand why we don’t start on the same level as the others. Then if we are too quick they can look at it again.”
The FIA Touring Car Bureau’s next planned meeting is jus ahead of the next round at Pau , but its chairman Johnathan Ashman has suggested that the situation is not likely to change. “If you look at our data the Honda is actually the strongest on the straight, and strong under acceleration too.”
RML boss Ray Mallock said: “If they have a case then fine, but from my understanding I don’t see they have one because the car doesn’t have the same aero disadvantages as us. Its up to them to prove it,” he said.
