Lada-man Shapalov hopes for better results
The Russian Bears Motorsport-prepared Lada 110 made its debut at Valencia two weeks ago. Due to the engine not being according to the rules the team could not score any points. In the first race Jaap Van Lagen retired and Viktor Shapovalov finished 19th.
“Our first WTCC-outing was not a delightful one for us. But to sum things up I suppose it is going in the right direction. We have got a lot of valuable information for the settings of the car,” said the driver Viktor Shapalov.
The reason for the team not being able to score any points was that the intake and the outlet ports of the cylinder head were not conform to the homologation form.
“It all started with a technical check that showed our engine OpelC2OXE, which has been prepared by the English company Swindon for our cars, were not correspondable to homologation map on one of the parameters,” said Shapalov.
“The point is, Chevroles uses slightly different variation of a engine from that was installed on essembly line on Lada 1106. “Our” engine canals in cylinder head are slightly smaller.”
The team will take part in the race this weekend in France at the street race Pau. The russian hopes for better results.
“We have reconstructed the specific parts in the engine and I hope we will do better.”
