First 2008 pole position for BMW at Pau
Augusto Farfus Jr took his and BMW’s first pole position today at Pau in France. The session was eventful and had been delayed by 30 minutes due to needed repairs after a support race. The track was dry on the contrary to the two first wet practice sessions earlier today. Second was Yvan Muller ahead of team mate Jordi Gené.
And it was SEAT 2-3-4-5 with the Italian Gabriele Tarquini in fourth and the Swede Rickard Rydell in fifth.
Rob Huff was the best Chevrolet-driver in sixth position ahead of reigning champion Andy Priaulx. Both drivers were lucky to get out for the qualifying as they both crashed during practice.
As common during street races a lot of drivers crashed. Ibrahim Okyay, Franz Engstler, Sergio Hernández, James Thompson, Oscar Nogués and Alain Menu all crashed in to the barriers – more or less seriously.
As a side note: The SEAT-teams seems very unhappy with the recent weight reduction for BMW and Honda. On the back of some of the SEAT-cars the text “Caution Heavy Car” could be seen.
