Tarquini breaks BMW-domination at Brno

Gabriele Tarquini managed to put an end to the BMW-domination at the Czech track Brno. The Italian took over the lead quickly from his team mate Yvan Muller who initially held it. Previous race winner Alessandro Zanardi headed a BMW train in second with Augusto Farfus third and team mate Felix Porteiro fourth.

Chevrolet-man Robert Huff made a strong charge from ninth on the grid to take third over the finish line. But the luck was not to last for long as the stewards decided to exclude him from the race due to the front anti-roll bar link no being conform to the regulations.

There were many battles through the field. Zanardi made a late charge on Tarquini at the very end of the race. The Italian was up along side Tarquini but had to pull back and settle for second.

Alain Menu was right in the thick of the action and looked to take third place. But the Chevrolet-man made a mistake and ran wide in a corner which made him dropping down to sixth.

In the Independents’ class Stefano D’Aste was leading the race until Sergio Hernández and Franz Engstler went either side; Engstler and D’Aste clashed and went out, enabling Hernández to gain his second race win of the weekend.

The Stewards imposed a drop of ten positions on the grid of Estoril’s Race 1 and a euro 1,000 fine on both Stefano D’Aste and Franz Engstler. The Italian was judged guilty of a collision with Engstler, while the latter for hitting Tiago Monteiro.
