Biofuel will be introduced in 2009

The World Touring Car Championship will introduce biofuel next year. It will be the latest generation of biofuel and Jonathan Ashman, president of the FIA Touring Car Comission, is enthusiastic about it.
“From what I’ve seen so far, the aspects that fans love about touring car racing, the noise, the excitement, and the close racing, won’t be affected. This is purely an environmental change,” said Ashman to Autosport.

“Many products can be used as a source for both first and second generation biofuel. Whereas first generation uses products that are primarily seen as kitchen consumables, second generation (2G) simply doesn’t compete with it. Any produce is used what we consider to be waste or non-food crops.”

The Volvo C30 of Robert Dahlgren that will take part in the WTCC race at Brands Hatch runs on biofuel. But as the rules have not been introduced yet he runs outside the points.
