New lap record for Farfus to snatch pole
Augusto Farfus has recorded a new lap record at Brands Hatch today to secure pole position for tomorrows race. Farfus secured his second pole of the season, getting his first at Pau beating Alain Menu by just 0.002s. Farfus secured the pole position with a lap time of 1:32.794 beating the previous Super 2000 record by 2 and a half tenths
Rob Huff was not disappointed when he put his Chevrolet 3rd on the grid. Huff was the fastest British driver, followed by current WTCC Champion Andy Priaulx who recorded the 4th fastest time.
Jörg Müller was 5th fastest in his BMW, however the highest place SEAT could manage was 6th with Yvan Muller.
Robert Dahlgren was 10th fastest in his Volvo, currently making a guest appearance from the Swedish Touring Car Championship as reported here on touringcartimes.com.
Gabriele Tarquini was forced wide into gravel on his fast lap causing an aborted run leaving him down in 18th for the first race tomorrow.
Farfus had this to say after his brilliant qualifying effort:
“Since the Estoril weekend we have done a very good job”
“This effort paid off today. My car behaved fantastically. Big thanks go to BMW and the team, who obviously have a great share in this success. Alain Menu and I fought hard for the top position in the practice sessions, and now I’m happy I emerged as pole-sitter – even if it was by a very small margin. Tomorrow I will do my best to defend the lead in the first corner and then quickly find my own rhythm.”
