Alain Menu on top for race 2

Alain Menu has won race 2 of the World Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch in Kent, UK after an eventful race. Menu sat on pole for race 2 having slowed down towards the end of race 1 finishing 8th and benefiting from the reverse grid. He didn’t lead from start to finish however, as Porteiro made the most of his rear wheel drive BMW to get in front of Menu off the start line, leaving Menu to pull off a brilliant overtake passing Porteiro into Paddock Hill Bend.

Race 2 started in great form with Porteiro jumping in front of pole man Alain Menu before reaching Paddock Hill Bend. Porteiro held onto first place for a short while however he was overtaken by Menu heading into Paddock Hill Bend. Menu went tight on the inside going down the hill and managed to make the move stick. Menu then went on to pull out a small gap finishing ahead of Porteiro by 1.055s.

It was Gené however who made the most notable start but not for his passing skills. Gené had a large slide heading into Paddock Hill Bend on the first lap and didn’t get full control back as he head down the hill. Thompson had already been pushed slightly wide, and as Gené continued to wobble he collided slightly with Thompson, causing a spin into the gravel and a lengthy safety car period as they struggled to pull Gené’s car out.

Both Porteiro and Menu made good getaways as they pulled away from the rest of the pack once the safety car pulled in. Zanardi followed behind the leading two finishing third putting two BMW’s on the podium.

The man on the move in race 2 was Farfus. Having started 24th on the grid he performed some outstanding overtaking to finish in 6th behind Tarquini. He did try to take the 5th position but the laps ran out though he finished very close behind and would of likely passed the SEAT driver on the following lap if there had of been one. So relentless was Farfus he’d managed to get from his 24th starting position to 8th by lap 12 despite the safety car period at the start of the race.

Priaulx ended his weekend at Brands Hatch with a miserable result. On lap 11 he gained a front puncture causing him to suddenly drop all speed and come into the pits. At this stage there was little point in continuing so he parked his car next to the garage and called it a day.

SEAT had a terrible race 2 with only Tarquini getting into the points and only 2 cars in the top 10.

Stefano D’Aste continued to shine this weekend placing his BMW 320si into the points and taking the independents win for the second time of the day.
