Jörg Müller wins eventful race at Brands Hatch
Jörg Müller has won the first race at Brands Hatch to record his first win of the season after Rob Huff went off while leading the race. The race start was very eventful when Farfus and Menu made contact. Farfus spun as a result of the contact, was then collected by Larini before heading into the gravel trap and hitting the wall. Priaulx fought hard to get the last podium spot and was promoted to it after Huff’s problems
After the contact between Farfus and Menu it was Huff who emerged in the lead followed by Müller in the BMW. Both Chevrolet’s suffered tyre problems however near the end of the race. First into the pits was Larini however Huff suffered the same problem just moments later forcing him into the pits and handing victory Müller.
Müller and Huff both pulled out a gap to the rest of the field which is how it stayed for the rest of the race, with Müller eventually winning by 6.595s at the end.
Priaulx, Yvan Muller and Menu both fought hard for the entire race, initially fighting for the final podium spot however they all gained a position at the end such that the fight became for second and third. Muller took second at the end followed closely by Priaulx. Menu slowed down near the end of the race to finish 8th in the end.
Stefano D’Aste finished 12th in race 1, taking the independents win.
Zanardi, Coronel, Porteiro and Tarquini all passed the slow Chevrolet of Menu to each gain a futher position to finish 4th,5th,6th and 7th respectively.
Robert Dahlgren having qualified well for Brands Hatch was unlucky to knock himself out of the race after braking hard and putting the Volvo C30 into the gravel trap.
